Today I stopped by the Great GoogaMooga Festival in Brooklyn with some friends for some good food and entertaining music. Click below for some SHOTS:
What: Great Googa Mooga Festival
Where: Brooklyn, NY
Venue: Prospect Park
When: May 20, 2012
Who: N/A
Notes: This was the first year of the festival, so there were some pros and cons to the event, but overall it was a nice time for both my friends and I. Here’s a quick list of some positives and negatives that I simply noticed and/or was directly affected by:
Pros – Wide variety of food & drink, Relatively rapid check-in, Great setting in the park, Awesome main acts in The Roots and Hall & Oates, Plenty of restroom facilities (clutch in festival settings where there are usually gigantic lines), Overall great aura between the music and the people
Cons – Extremely poor cell phone service (which sounds petty, but is important when you’re with/trying to find a group of people), Long food & drink lines mid to later in the day at a majority of booths (but I expected this), Food ran out at a number of locations, Workers/volunteers proved to be not all that knowledgeable on several occasions I went to them with questions, Lack of direction from the subway to the actual festival grounds
I’m not 100% sure what people were expecting with a free festival in NYC – I saw a lot of people complaining about lines via twitter – but you’ve gotta come in to these kinds of events knowing that it’ll be packed.
I’m interested to see how they will improve on it next year.
