I went in to tonight’s listening session not knowing what to expect with Diggy’s debut album – I left impressed by the progression of his confidence, lyrics, production, and overall sound. Click below for a few SHOTS:

What: Diggy album listening session for his Atlantic Records debut, Unexpected Arrival (pre-order here)

Where: NYC

Venue: Tribeca Cinemas & The Varick Room

When: February 6th, 2012

Who: Diggy Simmons – also spotted: LowKey (YouHeadThatNew.com), Xilla (BlogXilla.com), Matt Cohen (ItsBongoBoy.com), Jeff & Eric Rosenthal (ItsTheReal.com), Sowmya (Village Voice), Seed (Rule4080.com), JP (AllHipHop.com), key Atlantic Records staff, and many more…

Notes: Went in not expecting too much (what I mean by that is I’m slightly older than his demographic, so I wasn’t sure how he was going to develop the album and if it would appeal to me), but left impressed by Diggy. The production value on his album is incredible on some of the tracks – especially “Glow in the Dark” (the outro is something else) and “Unforgivable Blackness.” Two potential tracks that NEED to be singles are “Special Occasion” with Tank and “Two Up.”

Unfortunately, not the best pictures from the session. I was stuck in the back of the room and couldn’t get too close to Diggy until he was just about out the door. However, I’ll be looking to cover Diggy in the future, so be on the lookout for more galleries.

Special shout to Jason D. and Ashley K. from Atlantic Records.
